University of Dayton sets up memorial fund for fallen New Haven star

NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WOWO): A memorial fund has been set up for a fallen local basketball star.

Steve McElvene died suddenly last week at his New Haven home. The University of Dayton, where he starred and set a blocked shot record in his redshirt freshman year, wants to help his family.

The university has started a GoFundMe page to help out McElvene’s family. Contributions will be used to help the family cover funeral expenses.

More than $21,000 has been raised as of Wednesday afternoon.

McElvene will be laid to rest at 11 a.m. Saturday at Abundant Life Church. A public viewing for the 20-year-old will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.
