2 people escape apartment fire in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – Two Fort Wayne people escaped an apartment fire unharmed on the city’s north side Sunday evening.

Our partners in news at 21Alive report the fire happened in a first-floor apartment the 3900 block of Newport Avenue shortly before 6:30 p.m.

Crews were able to extinguish the blaze in around 10 minutes.

Officials say there was heavy smoke damage and moderate fire and water damage, but they have not yet determined the cause of the fire, which remains under investigation.
