2 Rescued from White River in Downtown Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A woman who fell from a bridge into the White River in Indianapolis has been rescued with a man who jumped in to save her.

The Indianapolis Star, WTHR-TV and WISH-TV report an Indianapolis Fire Department crew rescued the two in downtown Indianapolis outside White River State Park.  The two were being treated at a hospital. Neither was immediately identified.

The Star reports the man appeared to be holding the woman up while he stood on a sandbar until rescue crews got a boat to them. It quotes witness Don Allen as saying the woman appeared to have slipped while taking pictures.

WTHR reports the water is waist deep but extremely cold. An embankment prevented the two from exiting the river.
