ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) – The 8-year-old boy recovered from a neighborhood pond has died as a result of the incident.

Previously reported as a 9-year-old boy, the Marion County Coroner’s Office has identified the boy as 8-year-old Xavier Bordley.

Reports say two boys had been playing near the pond early in the afternoon on Dec. 22 when one of them fell in. 

The other boy reportedly tried to help but also fell in, but he was able to exit the pond on his own and went to find the boy’s father. 

Water rescue teams located the boy who was found in critical condition. He was taken to the hospital where he later passed away.
