Indiana Senate Passes Bill Targeting Illegal Mailing of Abortion Pills

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. (WOWO) The Indiana Senate has passed Senate Bill 236 by a 35-to-10 vote, advancing legislation aimed at the illegal mailing of abortion pills. The bill would allow civil lawsuits against individuals accused of trafficking the drugs and now moves to the Indiana House for further consideration.

Supporters say the measure strengthens enforcement by addressing gaps in current law. Indiana Right to Life says Senate Bill 236 closes loopholes that it argues put women at risk and increase access to illegally distributed abortion medication.

If approved by the House, the bill would expand legal options for addressing the unauthorized distribution of abortion pills in Indiana.
