6-Year-Old Boy Hospitalized After Being Pulled From Kokomo Retention Pond

KOKOMO, Ind. (WOWO): A 6-year-old boy was hospitalized Sunday morning after being pulled from a retention pond in Kokomo.

Police say the autistic child was reported missing from the 600 block of Elk Drive around 9:32 a.m. Officers and residents searched the area before the boy was found about 20 minutes later in the water near Beachwalk Lane.

People at the scene were able to pull the child from the pond and begin immediate assistance before emergency crews arrived. He was then transported to an Indianapolis hospital for further treatment.

Authorities have not released the child’s condition.

The circumstances surrounding how the child entered the water remain under investigation.
