Parkview Moving Toward A Hospital Police Force

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): There's another police force set to protect Allen County. But they may never actually do a road patrol.

Officials with Parkview Health say they are in the process of upgrading their security force to include fully trained law enforcement officers. That's according to a report from the Journal-Gazette.

There are an number of reasons for the move, workforce violence, the threat of prescription-motivated robberies, guarding patients and even domestic situations. None of those issues have occurred, but its just a way to be prepare. Police officers can provide leadership during emergency situations and give patrons confidence in their overall safety while at their facilities.

The hospital says many on their security staff are retired police officers and this is just another way to be one of the best facilities overall. At full force, the medical center would have about 18 officers.
