FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Saturday morning around 6:15 a.m., Fort Wayne Police responded to a fatal crash on Lima Road just north of Progress Road.

According to police, a vehicle traveling in the southbound lanes of Lima Road, hit a woman walking in the middle of the roadway.

Officers arrived on the scene and found the victim lying on the road. She was unconscious and unresponsive. Once paramedics reached the accident, they pronounced the victim dead at the scene.    

Police believe the victim was walking southbound in the far west travel lane of southbound Lima Road.  It appears due to dark lighting conditions and the victim wearing all dark clothing, the driver of the vehicle was unable to see the victim walking in the middle of the roadway.  The driver of the vehicle was on scene when officers arrived and is currently being interviewed by investigators.  It does not appear alcohol was a factor in the crash. 

In the meantime, this incident remains under investigation.
