DOVER, Del. (WOWO): Fallen sailor Randall Smith is one step closer to returning home.
Officials with Dover Air Force Base confirm Smith's remains arrived Sunday evening. The remains will under go medical examination, once that is complete, preparing the body for his funeral will begin. That includes final military identification and uniforming his body.
Smith, a Navy Petty Officer 2nd Smith grew up in the Paulding County, Ohio community of Cecil. He was one of five service members who were shot at two military sites in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Smith died Saturday morning from the effects of multiple gunshot wounds.
Details for Smith's funeral are yet to be released.
