58 MPH Winds Lead to Power Outages in Fort Wayne and Across Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Winds gusting more than 50 mph have downed tree limbs and power lines across Indiana, leaving more than 13,000 electricity customers without service at times.

The National Weather Service says a 58 mph gust was recorded at Fort Wayne International Airport on Monday morning. It says Grissom Air Reserve Base recorded a 52 mph gust and Goshen Municipal Airport had a 51 mph gust.

Utilities are reporting outages across the state. Indiana Michigan Power reported nearly 5,000 customers without electricity in the Fort Wayne area shortly after 2 p.m.

The Weather Service issued a high wind warning for parts of northern Indiana until early Monday evening. It says the high winds were the result of an intense low pressure system move across the upper Great Lakes.
