INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana legislators are set to suspend implementation of a national set of reading and math education standards and order a new round of public hearings on them.
 
  A legislative panel on Thursday discussed a compromise bill that would block the State Board of Education from having schools start using the Common Core State Standards until new public hearings are conducted by the board and a special legislative committee.
 
  Republican Sen. Scott Schneider of Indianapolis has pushed for the new review, saying he didn’t believe the benchmarks had enough public review. 
 
  The Indiana Chamber of Commerce is against delaying the standards developed by state school officials from across the country. It says the standards are strong and that the Legislature should leave such decisions to the Board of Education.
