Pence Asks Gary Leaders to Come Up With Long-Term Plan

INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): We told you last week about the request from Gary's mayor for Indiana police to help its stressed police department. Well, Indiana Governor Mike Pence wants Gary leaders to come up with a long-term plan for dealing with violence before deciding whether to grant the mayor's request. Pence asked Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson in a letter to give details on how the assistance fits into the city's “longer-term plans for self-sufficiency,” especially after Lake County adopted a 1.5 percent income tax in May.
