Muncie Woman Charged with Murder of Haitian Cousin

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) _ A Muncie woman now faces a murder charge in connection with the death of her 5-year-old Haitian cousin.

Delaware County prosecutors filed the charge Monday against 30-year-old Charlene Tabb alleging she directly participated in the June 22 death of Marie Pierre. Authorities have said the girl was repeatedly beaten in the weeks before she died.

The Star Press reports also filed five new counts of battery against Tabb alleging she beat other children in her home, including siblings who also are accused of abusing the girl.

Prosecutors also filed three additional counts of neglect and five counts of battery against her husband, 53-year-old Marcus Tabb.

The Tabbs have pleaded not guilty to a neglect charge. They're being held in jail, where records don't say whether they have attorneys.
