Police Surround Man at Grissom Air Base

PERU, Ind. (AP):  Police say a man spotted with a small suitcase and kneeling in prayer at northern Indiana's Grissom Air Force Reserve Base was taken into custody after being surrounded for about six hours.

State police Sgt. Tony Slocum says nothing dangerous was found inside the suitcase and the 47-year-old Kokomo man was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation early Friday.

Officers were called to the base near the Miami County city of Peru about 8 p.m. Thursday. Slocum says officers set up a perimeter around the man who ignored orders and made rambling statements, including telling officers they were in a code red zone.

A robotic device was used to move the suitcase away from the man, and officers moved in to arrest him about 2:15 a.m.
