NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) – The prosecutor in the first capital murder trial of a southern Indiana man accused of killing three women over a decade says he lured his late mother's best friend to his home and sexually assaulted, strangled and mutilated her.
 
William Clyde Gibson III went on trial Monday in New Albany for the slaying of 75-year-old Christine Whitis of Clarksville.
 
Floyd County Prosecutor Keith Henderson in his opening statement warned the jurors brought in from another county that the evidence will “be difficult for you to listen, see and hear” because of its graphic nature. Henderson is seeking the death penalty.

In his brief opening statement, defense attorney Patrick Biggs asked the jurors not to discuss the case until they have “all the pieces of the puzzle.”
