TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) – More than 800 acres owned by drugmaker Pfizer in western Indiana is on its way to becoming county parkland.
 
The Vigo County parks board approved on Monday an agreement to buy the property several miles south of Terre Haute for $50,000.
 
Pfizer ceased operations at its Terre Haute facility in 2010. The Tribune-Star reports county attorney Michael Wright said the site had been cleared of contamination. 
 
County parks superintendent Kara Kish says plans are to develop about 150 acres of the land with a playground, dog park, restrooms and parking. She says the rest will be set aside for a trails system and for fishing and hunting use.
 
Kish said the land could be open for public use in the fall of 2014 or in early 2015.
