Indy Woman Pleads to Child Neglect in Son’s Death

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – An Indianapolis woman has pleaded guilty to felony child neglect in the death of her 7-year-old son in an apartment fire that police say was sparked by a methamphetamine lab.

The Indianapolis Star reports 30-year-old Jessica Rogers has pleaded guilty as part of a plea agreement in which a murder charge was dismissed. Her trial was scheduled to begin Friday.

Authorities say Rogers was cooking meth last Dec. 8 when fire broke out and she jumped out a second-story window without her son, Dreydon Webb. The boy's body was found about 5 feet from the window Rogers escaped from.

A witness told police Dreydon repeatedly called “Help me, Mommy.”

Rogers will be sentenced Thursday. She faces a maximum sentence of eight years in prison.
