INDIANAPOLIS (AP): A controversial measure to screen Indiana welfare recipients for likelihood of addiction and possibly drug test them will not become law. The measure failed in the last minutes of the General Assembly session Thursday. The House passed the measure 81-17, but the Senate voted 24-24 against the bill and the proposal failed. The proposal would have required applicants for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families to be screened for likelihood of addiction and to possibly be drug tested.
