INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ The House Ethics Committee has scheduled a hearing to decide whether a powerful House Republican violated ethics rules by lobbying against a measure that would have cost him and others millions of dollars in potential profits.
House Speaker Pro Tem Eric Turner privately lobbied against a proposed ban on the construction of new nursing homes during the final hours of the 2014 session. Republican House Speaker Brian Bosma called for the ethics review last month, following reports of Turner's actions.
The committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday.
Turner has said he did nothing wrong and that he complied with all ethics rules.
Turner holds an ownership stake in his son's nursing home construction company, Mainstreet Property Group. Investors earn returns of up to six times their stake on some projects.
