4-year-old Boy Badly Injured By Family Pit Bull

HUNTINGBURG, Ind. (AP) _ Police in southwestern Indiana say a 4-year-old boy was badly injured when he was mauled by a family pit bull.

Huntingburg assistant police chief Ronnie Bowman says Terrance Perez of Evansville was taken to a Jasper hospital and underwent surgery after the dog attacked him at his grandfather's house on Monday.

The Herald reports Terrance suffered severe facial and scalp wounds during the attack in the city about 40 miles northeast of Evansville. Animal control officers took the dog from the home and placed it in isolation.

Officials don't know what prompted the attack and no criminal charges were immediately filed.
