BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP): A 21,000-square-foot Tibetan Buddhist monastery under construction in Bloomington for two years Is scheduled to open Saturday.
 
The Herald-Times reports the multi-million dollar Gaden KhachoeShing Buddhist Monastery will open 2 p.m. Saturday.
 
Resident monk Jamyang Lama says the monastery will be a “great asset'' for a community already known for its diversity. He calls it a “hybrid monastery'' because it was built with sustainability in mind. He says being environmentally conscious fits into Buddhist teachings.
 
A man-made waterfall and pond next to the monastery were created as part of a low-flow irrigation system. Rainwater collected on the monastery roof flows to the pond and back again and is used to water gardens.
 
The new monastery sits on 128 acres.
