INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indiana State Police are warning motorists to be alert for deer, saying the annual crop harvest and the hunting and mating seasons usually mean more crashes.
Police say motorists should use extra caution when driving in rural areas, particularly just before dawn and just after dusk. Police suggest using high beam headlights at night and to be aware that deer could be standing on or near the side of the road.
They also say drivers should watch approaching vehicles and observe what may break their headlights beams; it could be a passing deer. They also say to watch for reflections from the deer's eyes. Police also warn drivers that if they see one deer there could be others nearby.
