Fire Destroys New Paris Fiberglass Plant

NEW PARIS, Ind. – Fire has destroyed a large building at a northern Indiana manufacturing business.

The fire was reported about 2 a.m. Thursday at Better Way Products near the Elkhart County town of New Paris.

Officials said no injuries have been reported, but crews from at least 10 area fire departments were called to help shuttle water to the scene because no hydrants are nearby in the rural area about 25 miles southeast of South Bend.

Firefighters needed a couple of hours to put out the blaze, using heavy machinery to break through the building’s steel walls.

The company’s website says it makes fiberglass products for uses such as recreational vehicles, boats and patio furniture.
