Southern Indiana County Commissioner Arrested

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP): A southern Indiana county commissioner says he's sorry and embarrassed over his arrest on preliminary charges of drunken driving.

Clark County Commissioner Rick Stephenson was arrested early Wednesday after being pulled over by a sheriff's deputy in Jeffersonville.

A police reports says the 60-year-old Stephenson failed field sobriety exams and had a nearly 0.17 percent blood-alcohol level when tested at the county jail. That's about double the state's legal limit to drive.

Stephenson says he knows he committed a very serious infraction and doesn't take it lightly.

Stephenson was jailed for about seven hours before being released on the misdemeanor charges. Stephenson is a Republican who was first elected to the three-member Board of Commissioners in 2012.
