Collision Between Freight Train and Truck Kills Woman

WEST POINT, Ind. (AP) – Northern Indiana authorities say a collision between a freight train and a truck has killed a woman.

Emergency crews found the woman's truck upside down along a railroad crossing about 7:30 a.m. Friday, with the woman's body trapped inside.

West Point Volunteer Fire Department Chief Gary Cheesman tells the Journal & Courier that crews quickly freed the body from the wreckage but the woman already was dead. She has not yet been identified.

Cheesman says the woman was southbound when her truck was hit at the crossing by an eastbound Norfolk Southern train in West Point, an unincorporated community a few miles southwest of Lafayette.
