Police Say Man Shot, Injured after Police Chase

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP): Evansville officers shot and injured an armed man who authorities tried to talk down before he led them on a chase and crashed into a police vehicle.

The Evansville Police Department said in a news release that authorities responded to a call of an armed suicidal man at Vann Park at 7:35 p.m. Saturday.

The man wouldn't cooperate with officers so a negotiator was called in. The man fled the scene after an hour and told the negotiator on the phone that he had a gun.

Police said the man crashed through a locked gate, collided with a police vehicle and drove toward others.

Four officers fired at the man, who was injured. His condition was not disclosed.

The department is investigating. The officers are on administrative leave with pay
