SEYMOUR, Ind. (AP) _ Engine maker Cummins Inc. has opened a new technical and office center in southern Indiana where engineers are to focus on improving fuel efficiency and engine endurance.
The new Cummins Seymour Technical Center is on the same site as the company's Seymour Engine Plant, putting those who design its high-horsepower engines closer to the workers who build and test them.
Columbus-based Cummins started construction on the $70 million center in June 2014.
The (Seymour) Tribune reports about 500 people will work at the tech center, while the engine factory has 700 workers.
Plant manager Darren Wildman says the facility now has 22 testing labs dedicated to engine research and development.
