Evansville police say mother shot by son outside store

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ Police say a woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries when she was shot by her teenage son in the parking lot of a Target store in Evansville.

City police say the woman and her 15-year-old son were sitting in a van Thursday night when the boy removed the handgun from under a seat. Police say the teen believed the gun's safety was on when he pulled its trigger.

The woman was shot in the back and taken to a hospital from the store on the city's east side.

Police say the shooting appears accidental and that no criminal charges have been filed.
