Potential Booby Trap Causes Barricade Situation in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A barricade situation is resolved Tuesday afternoon near downtown Fort Wayne, but not before the man they were checking on had a trick up his sleeve.

Police went to serve an emergency medical detention order at an apartment on Lake Avenue between Dearborn to Loree Streets at a little before 1 PM. FWPD spokesman Mike Joyner says, when officers responded, they found something that made them retreat. “There was what was described as 'suspicious-looking lines or string' that ran through the apartment that could have suggested that the place was booby-trapped.”

But Joyner says the man confessed after being arrested that the strings were just set up to appear like booby traps, and it's believed that there is no danger at the home.

No information about the suspect was immediately made available.
