Fort Wayne residents may be eligible help paying for home repair projects

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Some residents in Fort Wayne neighborhoods will be getting home repair projects completely funded and completed thanks to a $120,000 grant.
Mayor Tom Henry addressed the plan Wednesday in his State of the City .

The city of Fort Wayne’s Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services is working with NeighborLink, a non-profit agency, to help Fort Wayne residents make home repairs, according to Mary Tyndall, a city spokesperson.

The Federal Community Development Block grant will be used to complete about 40 projects for homeowners who meet the income qualifications. The projects can cost up to $5,000 each for labor and materials.

“This grant will help residents make repairs that will address safety concerns and allow them to remain in their homes,” Heather Presley-Cowen, director of the Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services, said.

Volunteers from NeighborLink will work with professionals to fix large projects, such as furnace repairs and electrical work.

Anyone needing help with a home repair can visit NeighborLink Fort Wayne’s website or call (260) 710-7611 for more details.
