Southeast Fort Wayne group trying to save former police headquarters

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne officials want to tear down the former home of the city’s Police Department, but an activist group has other plans.

The former headquarters on Creighton Avenue has been empty since 2012, and the City’s hoping to tear down the building this summer, but the News-Sentinel reports a group of nearby residents and activists want that building and the ones around it to be redeveloped.

They believe the area would be better served if the city instead decided to use the buildings for housing or hosting businesses. The City says they’ve looked into that possibility, and it would just be impractical.

The state has already approved demolition.

A meeting about the effort to save the complex will be held at 6:30pm tomorrow at the McMillen Park Community Center.
