FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne’s Board of Park Commissioners have decided to use eminent domain to seize three downtown buildings that they say are stalling the city’s riverfront development project.

The board made the decision Thursday, according to the Journal Gazette, after attempts to buy the properties were rejected by their owners.

Now they’ll file a condemnation complaint with the court, the property owners will have time to object, and then there will be a ruling up to 90 days later. If the owners’ objections are overruled, the properties will be appraised, though that process can also be contested.

The department had offered almost $475,000 for one of the buildings and $818,000 combined for the two others.
