FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) – The thousands of Burmese who live in Fort Wayne now have their own community education center.

The Burmese American Society held an opening ceremony Sunday for its Burmese Community Library and Education Center. About 6,000 Burmese immigrants live in Fort Wayne.

The Journal Gazette reports that Indiana is one of three states to accept Burmese refugees. The others are New York and Texas. The largest population in Indiana is in Indianapolis.

The Fort Wayne center was the dream of Buddhist monk Ven Kuthala, who presides over a temple and monastery on the same property. The center is paid for with private donations.
