LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WOWO): Two U.S. representatives are returning to their re-election campaigns after unsuccessful bids to be the Republican nominee for Indiana governor.

Susan Brooks of Fort Wayne and Todd Rokita of Brownsburg won Indiana Republican Party caucuses over the weekend, returning them to the ballot in the Congressional races.

Both sought to fill the vacancy left on the gubernatorial ballot by Governor Mike Pence when he became Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s running mate. The party chose Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcomb for the spot.

Indiana Republican Party Chairman Jeff Cardwell issued a statement after the vote in Lafayette, saying the party’s November ticket “continues to grow stronger,” adding the Republican party will “make America great again.”
