ANGOLA, Ind. (WOWO): An invasive species of algae has been discovered in an Angola Lake.

The Indiana Department of National Resources says an infestation of starry stonwort was found in Lake James, according to the News-Sentinel.

DNR officials are concerned about boaters spreading it to other lakes. If boat owners don’t clean off their equipment before moving it to other lakes, it could spread quickly.

The Algae, which has already been found in 11 other lakes in northeast Indiana, is very difficult to stop.

The algae isn’t a health threat, but it can kill of native plants and prevent fish from reproducing.
