FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): As part of National Fire Prevention Week, WOWO continues a longstanding tradition: the WOWO Fire Drill.
Wednesday is the 70th annual citywide drill where students from schools across the area participate in simulating what would happen if they had to evacuate their buildings because of a fire.
The goal is to promote fire safety. This year’s host school is Arlington Elementary School on St. Joe Center Road in Fort Wayne.
During a special WOWO News broadcast, a student from the school will sound a fire alarm with the help of Fort Wayne firefighters.
The pulling of the alarm, as well as comments from the Fort Wayne Fire Department about fire safety, will be broadcast live on WOWO. The exact time is not announced ahead of time in order to keep the nature of the surprise drill intact.
