NATIONWIDE, (WOWO) – Almost 500,000 dual sensor smoke alarms are being recalled after reports of the protective cap being left on, which can comprise the smoke alarm’s ability to detect smoke.

The recall affects Kidde dual-sensor (photoelectric and ionization) smoke alarm models PI2010 and PI9010, which were sold in the United States and Canada.

The products were sold at in-store Menards, The Home Depot, and Walmart, and online on Amazon.com, ShopKidde.com, and other websites from September 2016 through January 2018.

The company has not received any reports of incidents or injuries as a result of the yellow cap being left on the product.

If you own this smoke alarm, you should remove it from the ceiling or wall and visually inspect the opening on the side for the presence of a yellow cap. Consumers should not attempt to take apart the alarm, open the casing or remove the yellow cap themselves.
