FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Sometimes, you want a present that barks or meows.

Pets are a popular gift idea for the holidays, and while experts vary on whether or not it’s a good idea to give a pet as a surprise gift if you’re planning for a new four-legged friend, Jessica Henry with the Allen County SPCA says they’ve got a special program for you:

“We have what’s called a Golden Ticket… it’s a gift certificate for pet adoption, and never expires,” Henry says, while adding that if you are planning on getting a pet for someone else, be sure to consider a few things:

“Think about their lifestyle, their commitment to exercise, and the cost. Pet ownership is not free.”

You can find a list of adoptable animals at AllenCountySPCA.org.
