FWFD Chief Biggs Resigns

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne Fire Department Chief Amy Biggs has resigned. Mayor Tom Henry announced Tuesday that Biggs' resignation will take effect June 1st, and the search for a new chief will start immediately. Biggs will remain with the Fire Department as a Captain. She joined the FWFD in 1995 as a firefighter and was promoted to Captain in the Fire Prevention Bureau and became Captain in the Operations Division in 2001, where she served for seven years, until being appointed Assistant Chief. She was then nominated to Fire Chief in July of 2012.

In a release from the Mayor's Office, Mayor Tom Henry said,

“I want to thank Amy for her service as Fire Chief. She’s a dedicated professional committed to protecting and serving our community…I wish Amy well in her new position.”

Fire Chief Biggs said,

“The experiences I’ve had during my tenure will truly be memorable for years to come…I stand proud to have represented the men and women of the Fort Wayne Fire Department as well as served the citizens of Fort Wayne. I look forward to my return to the Operations Division and the continued opportunity to make positive contributions in our community.”
