FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Allen County Commissioners have approved a plan to turn a former juvenile jail into a new work-release center.

Commissioners have awarded a $4-million contract to CME Corporation for a project that will convert the old Northeast Juvenile Correctional Facility on Venture Lane in Fort Wayne into a work-release center that will house low-risk offenders when they’re not at work.

The News-Sentinel reports the program will transfer to that building from their current run-down facility on 12101 Lima Road next year.

That will open up the 135-acre site for a potential sale.
