AM General to Begin Calling Employees Back to Work

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — An AM General spokesman says the South Bend-based company expects to begin recalling 200 workers to its plant in neighboring Mishawaka as part of a federal contract to build military vehicles.

Spokesman Jeff Adams told the South Bend Tribune the company was waiting to see if the contract is executed as anticipated. He said the company had previously said it expected to add workers when it secured additional orders for Humvees.

Earlier this year, the company recalled about 200 workers at its commercial plant where it makes MV-1 wheelchair-accessible vans. AM General announced this week it had reached an agreement to distribute the MV-1 in Canada.
