Architect Constructs Basic Plans for Downtown Riverfront Project

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Plans for the Fort Wayne Riverfront Development are coming together for architect Zach Benedict.

New trails, retail, and entertainment along the St. Marys, St. Joseph and Maumee rivers will undoubtedly cost millions of dollars. Benedict is the main architect of the project and told the Journal Gazette, the end result will be well worth it.

“Not too long ago, you couldn't get anybody to believe in downtown revitalization, and now, I think everybody kind of knows that we need to utilize the rivers.”

Benedict is working alongside a California planning group called SWA,who  recently wrote a $500,000 study to create a basic layout of the project. The downtown development encompasses both the north and south sides of the St. Marys River, extending from the Wells Street Bridge to Harrison Street.

The layout includes new restaurants and living spaces. So far, positive feedback has been circulating among residents in the city of Fort Wayne.
