FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): An Allen County agency will be receiving a share of $300-million in grants awarded by the Department of Veterans Affairs Thursday.

The VA has issued the money under the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program to help thousands of “very low-income” veteran families around the nation who are either permanently housed or transitioning to permanent housing.

The program is part of an effort to prevent homelessness for veterans and their families.

Community Action of Northeast Indiana, which covers Allen, Adams, and most other area counties, is one of five Indiana agencies receiving funding.
