Arrest Made In 2008 Fort Wayne Cold Case Rape

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) — Fort Wayne Police say a breakthrough in DNA technology has led to an arrest in a 2008 cold case rape.

Investigators announced Friday that 55-year-old Brad A. Battershell has been taken into custody and is preliminarily charged with two counts of rape, three counts of criminal deviate conduct, and one count of sexual battery.

Police say they received a DNA hit earlier this year through the Combined DNA Index System, commonly known as CODIS. Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit and Crime Scene technicians followed up on the match and identified Battershell as the suspect.

He has been arrested and booked into the Allen County Jail as the investigation continues.
