Authorities Release Name of Man Killed in Police Action Shooting

ELKHART, Ind. (WOWO): Indiana State Police said Monday night that 27-year-old Jamie Benavidez of Elkhart died in the shooting. Investigators say three Elkhart City Police officers fired at Benavidez after he allegedly pointed a gun at them while running from them Sunday afternoon. The shooting happened after officers responded to a home burglary attempt. A 14-year-old boy who also ran from officers eventually gave up and was arrested for misdemeanor resisting arrest. He was interviewed by state police detectives and later released to his father. No police officers were injured.
