Body found in Maumee River identified

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The man whose body was found in the Maumee River yesterday afternoon has been identified as that of a former NFL star.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office says 31-year-old James Hardy was the man whose body was found in a log jam near the Hosey Dam. His body was spotted by a city employee; police say it had been in the water for “a while.”

The cause and manner of death have not yet been released, and the case is still under investigation.

Hardy’s body was the second pulled from the Maumee River in as many weeks. So far there’s no word on if police suspect foul play.

Hardy formerly played football for Elmhurst High School, Indiana University and the NFL’s Buffalo Bills.
