Fairmount Man Gets 56 Years after Neglect Death

MARION, Ind. (AP) – A judge has sentenced a northeastern Indiana man to 56 years in prison following his conviction on several charges connected to the death of a toddler who was under his care.

Donald Riddle of Fairmount was sentenced Monday after being convicted last month of felony charges of neglect of a dependent resulting in death, possession of scheduled controlled substances and possession of marijuana.

Two-year-old Arianna Carmack was found dead in her crib, covered in burns, on Feb. 13.

Riddle testified that he didn't know how Arianna suffered the burns. Medical experts testified she could have survived the burns if several hours hadn't passed before Riddle and the girl's mother sought medical treatment.

The mother, Wanetta Lloyd, also faces neglect and other charges.
