Boy Struck On Bike; Hours Later Fire Damages Home

OXFORD, Ohio (AP) – A southwest Ohio sheriff's spokesman says the family of a 10-year-old boy struck by a car while riding his bicycle endured a second tragedy hours later when a fire heavily damaged their home.

Butler County sheriff's spokesman Monte Mayer says Adam Lakin was taken to a hospital with a severe head injury after the Thursday evening crash near his home in Reily Township. A Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center spokesman says the boy was in serious condition Friday.

Officials say a fire at the boy's home about 1:30 a.m. Friday caused significant damage and the family was notified at the hospital.

Mayer says an Evansville, Indiana, woman was driving the car that hit the boy who was riding in the southbound lane of Ohio 732. The investigation was continuing.
