FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): This week, Cedar Canyon Elementary students are honoring their former teacher, Chris Dodane, who died August 12 after an incident on I-469 on the first day of school.
Northwest Allen County Schools Superintendent Chris Himsel tells WOWO News that all week long students will participate in a different themed day to remember the former second grade teacher. Themes include some of Dodane's favorite things like Purdue University and country music. There will also be time for students and teachers to share stories and their favorite memories about Dodane.
NACS will be collecting donations for a college fund for Dodane's children. Himsel says those wishing to donate can bring cash or a check made out to the Dodane family to any school in the district.
Himsel adds that if Cedar Canyon raises $5,000 for the Dodane family, students can look forward to a dunk tank featuring some of their teachers. Additionally, if $5,000 is raised by each school in the district, Himsel will take a turn in the tank.
