Central Indiana District to Equip 800 Students with Laptops

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – A school district in central Indiana is equipping 800 middle school students with laptops as part of a pilot program.

Students at Wainwright and East Tipp middle schools in Tippecanoe School Corp. will get the laptops this fall. They are the first middle schools in the district where all students will have computers.

The (Lafayette) Journal & Courier (http://on.jconline.com/1EKoL41 ) reports parents will have to pay rental fees for the laptops. East Tipp Principal Shaad Buss estimates they'll cost less than $100 per year to rent.

The district says the laptops will be Google Chromebooks, which are often less expensive than traditional models that have hard drives.
